Hot Molecular Cores and High-mass Star Formation
نویسندگان
چکیده
This review covers hot cores in the context of high-mass star formation. After giving an overview of chemical processes and diversity during high-mass star formation, it reviews the 'warm envelope' phase which probably precedes the formation of hot cores. Some recent deter-minations of the cosmic-ray ionization rate are discussed, as well as recent evidence for hot cores around low-mass stars. Routes for future hot core research are outlined.

Hot Cores : Probes of High - Redshift Galaxies ?
The very high rates of second generation star formation detected and inferred in high redshift objects should be accompanied by intense millimetre-wave emission from hot core molecules. We calculate the molecular abundances likely to arise in hot cores associated with massive star formation at high redshift, using several different models of metallicity in the early Universe. If the number of h...
متن کاملHot Molecular Cores and the Formation of Massive Stars
It has been proposed that some hot molecular cores (HMCs) harbor a young embedded massive star, which heats an infalling envelope and accretes mass at a rate high enough to “choke off” an incipient HII region. This class of HMCs would mark the youngest phase known of massive star formation. In order to test this hypothesis, we model this type of object calculating the radiative transfer through...
متن کاملMassive Infrared-Quiet Dense Cores: Unveiling the Initial Conditions of High-Mass Star Formation
As Pr. Th. Henning said at the conference, cold precursors of high-mass stars are now “hot topics”. We here propose some observational criteria to identify massive infrared-quiet dense cores which can host the highmass analogs of Class 0 protostars and pre-stellar condensations. We also show how far-infrared to millimeter imaging surveys of entire complexes forming OB stars are starting to unve...
متن کاملRelative Evolutionary Time Scale of Hot Molecular Cores with Respect to Ultra Compact HII Regions
Using the Owens Valley and Nobeyama Radio Observatory interferometers, we carried out an unbiased search for hot molecular cores and ultracompact (UC) HII regions toward the high-mass star forming region G19.61–0.23. In addition, we performed 1.2 mm imaging with SIMBA, and retrieved 3.5 and 2 cm images from the VLA archive data base. The newly obtained 3 mm image brings information on a cluster...
متن کاملThe Formation of Massive Stars from Turbulent Cores
Observations indicate that massive stars in the Galaxy form in regions of very high surface density, Σ ∼ 1 g cm−2. Clusters containing massive stars and globular clusters have a column density comparable to this. The gas pressure in clouds of such a column density is P/k ∼ 108 − 109 K cm−3, far greater than that in the diffuse interstellar medium or the average in giant molecular clouds. Observ...
